## Overview

Hiroshi Hara designed it in 1993 as a fragment of a much larger scheme of linked towers that was never built, which is why it reads as unfinished in an interesting way. The escalators that cross the open gap between the towers at the thirty-ninth floor are the part people remember. The roof deck is open to the air with no glass, so it is loud, windy and much better than an enclosed observatory.

## Highlights

Go up for sunset and stay for the change; the deck faces west over the Yodo River and the city lights come on beneath you. In the basement, Takimi-kōji is a reconstruction of a 1920s Osaka alley of eating houses, which is either charming or kitsch depending on your mood. Tickets are cheaper booked online and the queue at the lift is the only slow part.
