## Overview

Monks from the Lérins islands fortified the hill in the eleventh century, and the tower and the church of Notre-Dame d'Espérance still crown it. The lanes below are narrow, stepped and lined with restaurants — rue Saint-Antoine is the busy one. It is a ten-minute climb from the port and a different town from the Croisette.

## Highlights

Climb at sunset for the view over the port and the Croisette lights. The Musée des Explorations du Monde in the castle keep holds Mediterranean antiquities and musical instruments. Eat here rather than on the seafront; the same meal costs half as much two hundred metres uphill.
