## Resumen

El templo se fundó en 1448 y llegó a albergar un Buda de pie de 16 metros cubierto con 340 kilos de oro; los birmanos quemaron la imagen en 1767 para fundirle el oro y los fragmentos se depositaron más tarde en una estupa de Bangkok. Los tres chedis se restauraron en los años cincuenta y son la silueta más fotografiada del parque histórico. Lo que queda es la planta: se puede recorrer el eje de un templo real sin que haya nada en pie sobre él.

## Lo más destacado

Conviene venir al amanecer o en la última hora, cuando el ladrillo se vuelve anaranjado y el parque está vacío; el mediodía aquí es brutal y no hay sombra. Las ruinas del palacio contiguo se pueden recorrer sin pagar. El parque histórico es sitio de la UNESCO y una sola entrada cubre seis templos, que es la manera sensata de comprarla.
