## What happened

From its capital near modern Ayacucho, Wari expanded across highland and coastal Peru, building planned administrative centers. It ruled through roads, storehouses, and resettled colonies.

## Background

Wari spread a shared art style and religious imagery, and its terraced agriculture supported dense populations. It was one of the two great Middle Horizon powers alongside Tiwanaku.

## Consequences

Wari collapsed by around AD 1000, and its centers were abandoned. Its administrative methods deeply influenced the later Inca Empire.
