## Overview

Sasanian figured silks reshaped the dress of Byzantium, China and the later Islamic world.

## Key garments and style

Princes wore silk caftans (open-fronted coats) and trousers woven with pearl-roundel and senmurv patterns, and crowns trailing ribbons; the reliefs of Taq-e Bostan and Sasanian silver plates record the look.

## Transition

Even after the Arab conquest of 651, the Sasanian tradition of silk and tailoring passed into Islamic-era dress.
