## Overview

Evidence for the kingdom is scarce, but dress was plain wool rooted in the traditions of Etruria and neighbouring Latium.

## Key garments and style

The basis was a wool tunic (tunica) under a semicircular toga. The toga, a draped garment developed from the Etruscan tebenna, would become the mark of the Roman citizen.

## Transition

With the Republic, the toga was formalised as the garment that signalled citizen status.
