## Overview

A jokduri is a small brimless coronet, black on the outside and often padded, its top set with jewels, beads, and cloisonné ornaments. Light and purely decorative, it crowned the elaborately dressed hair of a bride or a woman in grand ceremonial dress.

## How it is worn

It is placed on the top of the head over dressed and braided hair and secured with a long pin, worn with the hwarot or the wonsam ceremonial robe. Its jewels and the size of its ornament reflected the formality of the occasion.

## History

The jokduri came into use in the later Joseon dynasty, encouraged as a modest alternative when the huge wigs of court fashion were curbed. It survives as an essential part of the traditional Korean wedding, worn with the hwarot.
