The trousers and sleeved coat of the Iranian riding peoples were a consistent frame from antiquity, building a tailoring tradition distinct from the draped Mediterranean world.

## The story of dress

Sasanian figured silks reshaped the dress of Byzantium and the Islamic world, and the Safavid court robes and Qajar portraits record the richness of Persian dress. In modern times the Pahlavi dress reforms and the Islamic Republic's dress code moved dress sharply.
