In this age when hunting-and-gathering life took root region by region, dress too diverged to suit the environment.

## Key garments and style

In many regions tanned hide and fur clothing continued, while in dry areas plaited plant-fibre sandals, belts and bags were made. Shell, stone and bone were used for ornament.

## Transition

In the Formative period, as cotton growing and weaving began in Mesoamerica, woven dress flowered.
