## Overview

With the rise of the city-states, dress took on regional styles, and the kore statues record its intricate drapery.

## Key garments and style

Women wore either the heavy Doric peplos, pinned at the shoulders, or the sewn, lightly falling Ionic chiton, with a himation over it, adorned with colour and borders.

## Transition

In the Classical period these styles were refined further and idealised in sculpture.
